A lifeline of encouragement
When Morgan* and her family returned to the US on furlough, the losses and difficulties of the past several years weighed heavily on them.
They had been living in a remote location in Southeast Asia with a small team to labor for the gospel and the glory of Jesus’s name among a hard-to-reach people. Daily life was full of hardships, ranging from no guarantee of running water to constant sickness from the food they were eating.
Morgan and her husband have 5 children, and several have come very near death since moving overseas because of the constant sickness. Medical care is hard to come by, and it takes an 18-hour journey to get to a hospital.
Their hope is firmly set on Jesus, and it has been difficult to endure the hardships and sicknesses, the fear of losing any of their kids at any moment, and the challenges that have come to this missionary family. They knew before they became missionaries that their life would be full of challenges, but living every day with the constant danger and difficulties had taken a deep toll on their hearts and bodies.
Their sending church was already partnered with Frontlines, and once Morgan’s family was back in the US, their missions pastor connected her with our counseling team.
In the midst of so much loss and difficulty, Morgan’s chief need has been encouragement to suffer faithfully for the sake of the gospel. The dangers are very real and present, but it has been a great encouragement to see Morgan and her husband persevering and trusting the Lord in faith as they have received care and help to do this from their sending church and through Frontlines.
Now, Morgan and her family are back on the field, and she has continued to meet with Kim Seville, lead for Women’s Care and Counseling. Morgan recently shared:
“I feel like meeting with you (Kim) weekly has made the difference between just surviving and doing well. I look around and see others struggling, and I regularly think, ‘things are really hard, but I am okay’ due in part to a weekly lifeline of encouragement and counsel.”
As Morgan and her family continue to encounter and endure the dangers and hardships of their life on the field, please pray that the Lord would:
Continue to give them strength for today
Protect them and their children from sickness and death
Bring many people to know and believe in Jesus through the faithful suffering and witness of this family
Give wisdom to their sending church as they care well for this family and other missionaries they have sent out
